2013 City Populations Released

May 23, 2014

by Jeff Pinkerton

The Census Bureau released the 2013 city population estimates on Thursday. The infographic below shows the biggest movers in the metro. Not surprisingly, the area’s largest cities saw the most growth. Kansas City, Missouri, Overland Park, Olathe and Kansas City, Kansas each added over 1,000 new residents between 2012 and 2013.

Perhaps a bit more interesting is the percent change table. Grandview saw its population grow by 2.87 percent between 2012 and 2013, leading all other metro cities with a population of at least 5,000. Grandview was followed by the northland cities of Parkville, Smithville and Kearney.

A couple of cities crossed significant milestones in this recent population estimate. Lenexa crossed the 50,000 mark and Liberty topped 30,000.
